Spare Key - Emma Noodles

Spare Key is Emma Noodles’ latest statement in her debut run of singles, preceded by The Stars We Shine and Sore Heart last year. Both releases saw her gain traction in Ireland, with mentions in HotPress and Void Magazine and being selected for radio by John Barker of Tilt (Dublin City FM) and Jodie Bryant (Radar45).

Continuing to collaborate with producer Erik Konijn, this song has been two years in the making. Recording the first demo in 2022 before she had ever released any music, the song has been on a long journey, culminating in the ballad-turned-cathartic-explosion that it is today.

Emma Noodles speaks on the meaning and emotion of Spare Key:

“I feel like Spare Key is a journey that brings you through every stage of heartbreak. From that initial sadness, the desperation for answers, feeling used and isolated but ultimately you feel that acceptance. The song ends at a place of peace, leaving it all behind and overcoming it.”

Beginning with just piano, and her voice, the song grows into a melancholic atmosphere with a subtle icy texture. With an enchanting and intimate pace, the song suddenly climaxes with a rocky and cathartic wall of sound outro. Blending familiar and vintage pop sounds reminiscent of y2k pop ballads, with cutting edge and glitchy production, Spare Key pulls you in. Emma Noodles’ voice hauntingly delivers vulnerable lines about overcoming & heartbreak.

Spare Key sees Emma Noodles be fully vulnerable and personal as a songwriter, yet also hopeful and empowering, accompanied by a cathartic alt-rock instrumental. The song is likely to resonate with people who listen to music in search of that emotional connection and release.

Spare Key had its radio debut on RTE 2fm, played by Beta Da Silva. Also see Spare Key featured in HotPress and GenuineIrish.
